August 2023: Keeping the momentum going in your marketing

For many of us, summer brings a quieter few months in business. Lots of your clients go on holiday or simply take the opportunity to slow down a little after a busy first 6 months of the year. When it comes to marketing, slowing down or stopping altogether means it’s easy to quickly lose momentum and it can be difficult to build it back up again.

In this month’s round up, we share suggestions as to how you can focus your marketing efforts in the right places so you can keep building momentum in your marketing, even when things are slower.

It also features the hybrid team retreat we enjoyed in August and kind words clients have recently shared with us.

Connection, creativity and client’s visions!

Our team got to spend 3 days of August enjoying a hybrid team retreat! With a team of 18 people, spread out across 5 countries, getting together every year as a full team can be challenging. A hybrid retreat means getting together in our regions and enjoying time with each other both in person and online. This time we split up into 3 regions: UK, Argentina and the US and each group was involved in the live sessions, breakouts and creativity time!

The main theme of this retreat was Vision. We started off with a workshop digging into PF’s vision statement before moving to the visions and missions our clients share. What are they? Where do they come from? And how can we help our clients to show their vision better in their marketing?

We identified that our clients are connected by their passion to improve not just their client’s businesses, but also the accounting industry as a whole. Community, respect, care and freedom were just some of the words that came up time and time again when discussing what motivates you as accountants to set up and run their own firm.

Ahead of the retreat, the whole team got to read Karen’s new book, The Accountant Marketer (which is available to pre-order now)! We enjoyed a Dragon’s Den style activity whereby each team was given a copy of the book and a £5,000 investment and asked to present a marketing plan to the “PF Dragons” based on only these two resources. Our creative team came up with some brilliant suggestions which we’ll be using in our own marketing (keep your eyes peeled for a podcast!) and with our amazing clients!

Team retreats are an amazing opportunity for your team to reconnect with one another and spend time focusing on those “bigger picture” sessions which can be hard to prioritise in day to day work. Drop us a message if you’d like some ideas on how you might set up and run your own team retreat!

How to gather and share client stories in your marketing: 12 September

Sharing stories and testimonials from your existing clients help THEM to do the talking for you. They offer proof and reassurance to your audience that your accounting firm has something valuable to offer. So how do you go about gathering and sharing them?

There’s a training session running in the PF Lab and in it you’ll cover:

  • How do I draw out a story from a client: what questions do I ask them?
  • How can I encourage my client to record a video testimonial?
  • How do I then present my case study or testimonial to my audience?

Over the past couple of months, some of our favourite clients have kindly shared some words with us about their experience of working with PF and the impact it’s had on their firms and in their marketing. These words help you keep up momentum and energy (especially in the tougher and quieter times) and they show the results you can achieve as an accountant who’s willing to invest in marketing and be consistent with it.
